I live in rural Huntington Indiana; home of former Vice President Dan Quayle and Purdue's Chris Kramer. My husband and I just built a house in the woods last year so we are busy trying to make it a home. This spring, we just planted our very first vegetable garden and are hoping for it to grow! We have a hyperactive German Shephard puppy, Molly, who has recently with the spring rains and mud become the Swamp Puppy. She has been a handful! I love to decorate and shop, anything that gets my creative juices flowing. I spend as many of my summer hours outdoors. I also work part time during the summer at a local nursery/landscaping company. I have one brother (16) and a sister (25).
About My Classroom
I teach 4th and 5th grade guided reading groups in the morning. In the afternoon, I cram 3 classes; 6th, 7th and 8th grade READ 180 into 3 hours. I end up with only about 45-55 minutes per class. We have a modified schedule of Read 180 and only fit 10 minute Whole Group and 2-20 minute Rotations into our day.
Experience and Training
New to READ 180 this year! I started this year teaching 6th grade language arts and transitioned into our school's new READ 180 position in October. In my nine years of teaching, I have taught 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th Language Arts and now have the role of 4th-8th grade Reading Specialist for our school.
Why I Teach READ 180 and/or System 44
I took this position for several reasons, including the hope to strengthen my knowledge and instruction of reading.
