About My Classroom
My classroom, proudly called the Brown Palance (Modular), is a pull out special education resource classroom. Students who come to my room receive help on IEP goals in Reading, Written Language, Math, and Spelling. I currently work with 4th and 5th grade students. Students participate in the regular classroom through inclusion services as well.
Experience and Training
I graduated from Sheridan College with an Associate of Arts Degree. After attending Sheridan College, I transferred to the University of Wyoming and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. I returned 6 months later and received an endorsement in Special Education. I received my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Phoenix.
I have taught elementary special education for 13 years. One year in Pinedale, Wyoming and the other 12 in Evanston.
Why I Teach READ 180 and/or System 44
READ 180 is a new curriculum for the elementary special education teachers in the district. The program is currently being used at the middle and high school level. My first experience with teaching READ 180 has been this summer with 5th grade students entering the middle school. I am really EXCITED to implement the program in my own classroom and look forward to continuing my own learning about the program. I enjoy using the READ 180 program because of the interesting topics and the individualized instruction the program provides for my students. The resources on the website have already proven to be a valuable asset to my learning. I am currently getting my classroom set up for the READ 180 program.
My goal is to be able to become a READ 180 Trainer for other teachers around the nation, perhaps internationally!
