Have you found Read180 to help improve your students' writing proficiency? What parts of the program have you found most useful to build sentence writing skills? What modifications have you used or supplemental materials have you found most effective?

I am wondering how other teachers help students to improve their writing while using Read180 Universal.

Most lessons that use the rBook (for Next Generation) or the Real Book have extensive writing help. We being constructing sentences and advance to paragraphs and then to full essays. It is writing in service of reading, but it is also there to teach writing skills to students. You may also want to read some of the blogs about incorporating writing in READ 180. Do a search on "writing" and limit the response to blogs. You can also write me at AskDee@sbcglobal.net. Dee

Thanks Dee. I messaged you and will look for those blogs. I have some students who only copy a more proficient student's response or need intense scaffolding on the assignments because they can't even produce a complete sentence independently. I have exhausted the RDI books and need more writing practice at the sentence level.

Have you put those students in the same Small Group? I would address it separately in Small Group. I would not worry about keeping their Small Group session the same as the rest of the class. I have found your email in my inbox today and will try to give a fuller response there. Dee, Ask Dee at the READ 180 Community
