Grading Report Confusion

I have 8 of my students that have a fluency grade with no context passage grade. I have 7 students with no word fluency OR context passage grades. And I have 1 student with no word fluency grade, but a context passage grade. What am I doing wrong? Are my students doing something wrong? Why are some missing word fluency AND context passage, some missing just context passage, and one having context passage but no word fluency grade?

  • My students are in Read180 Next Generation, if that makes a difference.

It's been a long summer, but I believe these are correct: the fluency grade is one that you or another teacher gave the student when grading it in the portfolio. students who haven't completed a success zone yet this year won't have a grade until they finish their first SZ. For Word (and Spelling) Fluency, I believe no grade is shown if mastery in all words is shown with no errors. In this case, for these categories, I assume a 100% grade is appropriate. continued...

Continued from previous... Some students have with our spelling down, but are weak in comprehension. Another area to check is if your school dates have been updated in SAM's school profile by an administrator.(check report dates - are they current?). One more note. I find that sometimes students in READ 180 last year did not end a segment so it's still open and this year those students pick up where they left off. This is awkward and I like everyone to start a fresh segment & I skip it in SAM.

Oops. Some students have word and/or Spelling skills down but need help in comprehension. ) corrects beginning my of 2nd post.

The fluency grade was auto-populated somehow, as I did not have any recordings in the portfolio to grade. My students have never been in Read180 software before, as I am the only teacher in the entire system to use it, so there is no carryover issue. So the empty columns are mastery? Why wouldn't they just say 100% like the other columns?

Check students' Student Segment Status Reports. Look at their word zone progress. Are they working in the word zone or have they finished? If still working And have not ID'd any words needing work, there isn't any data to report, thus it's blank. What are some of the grades you are seeing in Fluency?

I do not have a "Student Segment Status Report" that I can select. I looked around but couldn't find a similar one containing what you described? Could it be called something else?

In READ 180 Next Gen Reports, make sure you are clicked on a student in your class, then check that the drop down menu is on student reports. You should now see the SSSR. This is one of the main go to reports that shows each student's progress in their current segment. It is also the only report that shows how a student did on their SZ Discrepancy Passage.

Debbie, this last response was incredibly helpful. I am looking myself look like a complete moron when I admit this, but I hadn't realized I could access more reports by clicking on individual students. THANK YOU!

You are very welcome! I'm glad I could help. It takes awhile to get to know all the quirks of the program, but you will!

I just had another thought for you. Are any of your students from last year? Take a look at the dates on the grading report. You could have the wrong dates in your system. Dee, Ask Dee at the READ 180 Community

There are no students from last year. I am the only teacher in the entire district to use Read 180. No students have ever been in the software before. I did look at the School Profile to make sure the calendar is correct for this year, and it is.
